-PKU and bilirubin obtained prior to discharge -Breast feeding every 2-3 hours during the day and every 3-4 at night -Follow up in 2 days for weight and color check -Sleep position side or back to decrease risk for sudden infant death syndrome -Call if any issues with feeding, lethargy, or other concerns -Sun expose in a warm room 3 times a day for 15-20 minutes for the next 3-4 days to reduce risk of jaundice -Get 2nd PKU/Metabolic screen done at the clinic between 8-14 days of life -Supplement infant's vitamin D with 400 IU once daily -Monitor umbilical cord site (and circumcision site if applicable) for evidence of infection such as redness, warmth, discharge NEWBORN WARNING SIGNS AND REPORTABLE SYMPTOMS: · Blue or pale colored skin (Blue lips are a 911 call!) · Difficulty Breathing · Yellow skin or eyes · Patches of white found in baby’s mouth (possible dehydration or yeast) · Eating poorly or refusing to eat · No stool for 48 hours or less than 6 wet diapers a day by one week old · Redness, drainage or foul odor from the umbilical cord · Temp of 100 or higher · Repeated vomiting or several refused feedings in a row · Crying excessively with no known cause · Behavior changes "not his/her usual self" · An unusual or severe rash · Frequent or successive stools and excess water or foul odor. · Congested cough, runny eyes or nose
