Braxton Hicks contractions:
• Spontaneous tightening of uterine muscles anywhere from 30 to 60 seconds.
These contractions are thought to play a part in toning the uterine muscle and promoting the flow of blood to the placenta.
• Sometimes called "false labor" or "practice contractions"
